Therapy Session
Therapy generally consists of heat packs and electrical stimulation of the spinal muscles to promote relaxation and circulation in the tissues. This is followed by extensive soft tissue massage to further loosen and relax spastic or tight muscles. We spend the time required to treat the patient properly.
Exercise, proper nutrition and other physical therapy modalities such as ultrasound and inter-segmental traction are often part of the therapeutic regimen.
Spinal Manipulation
Spinal manipulation is manually performed by the doctor, not by a machine. The manipulation is gentle and non-traumatic because the spinal muscles have been properly relaxed.
Spinal Disorders usually involve a disruption of the vertebral motor unit. The vertebral unit is formed by the vertebra and disc in between, how they connect together and relate to nerves, vessels, and muscles within and around them. The vertebral motor unit can be thought of as a link in a chain. The chiropractor works to keep the links in good condition with proper alignment of vertebral segments (bones) and in correct moving order eliminating stiffness and fixation in the spine and restoring function. A stiff spine will be sore and achy. If the vertebra is out of place, they can cause pinched nerves and tight muscles. Just like a machine, when parts are out of place they do not function properly and will wear out quicker.
